❓ Why Am I Being Charged VAT?
Norway requires all foreign digital service providers to charge 25% VAT on purchases made by Norwegian customers.
This applies regardless of where the company is based - under Norwegian law, VAT must be collected at the point of sale for any digitally delivered service.
This means that when you place an order on Overgear, VAT is automatically added to your order total based on your location.
🧮 How It Looks at Checkout
When placing an order, you will see the VAT amount displayed separately before confirming your purchase at the Secure Chekout stage:
After payment, you will also be able to see the charged VAT amount in your order history on your Overgear profile:
ℹ️ VAT is calculated on top of the service price and charged at the time of payment. The total amount you pay includes both the service price and the applicable VAT.
🔁 How VAT Works on Refunds
OPM Refund (Original Payment Method)
If your order is refunded to your original payment method, the full amount is returned - including the VAT that was charged at the time of purchase.
If your order is cancelled and the funds are returned to your Overgear balance, VAT is not refunded. Only the base service amount is credited to your balance.
This is because funds on your Overgear balance are still considered part of a completed online purchase. The moment you paid online, VAT was applied to that transaction. Any subsequent movement of funds within Overgear - such as a balance refund - does not constitute a new online transaction and therefore falls outside the scope of VAT. It happens entirely within the platform.
ℹ️ If the refund is issued to your original payment method later, VAT will be returned as well.
